Week 5: GAME Plan

•How effective were your actions in helping you meet your goals?

To meet my first goal, I need to become more familiar with the technology resource of WebQuests. I still don't feel comfortable in developing my own. As for my second goal, using technology as an assessment tool, I feel that I fully understand the technologies that I will implement. The only technology that I need to become more familiar with is web development. Our school has space available for each teacher to develop a website. This is where I would like to develop my classroom website, the only issue is that our media specialist is currently out until the end of the school year. I guess that This may just have to wait.

•What have you learned so far that you can apply in your instructional practice?

In learning about WebQuests, I have done a lot of searching for websites that are helpful and useful for my students. I have been able to find online resources that are supportive of current curriculum. Although I have not developed a WebQuest yet, I have found sources to support other projects and learning.

•What do you still have to learn? What new questions have arisen?

I still need to learn the development of a WebQuest and website development and management. Has anyone ever developed a WebQuest? If so, what site should I use to host my WebQuest?

•How will you adjust your plan to fit your current needs?

As for this year, I don't think that I will be able to develop a website that would host my technology based assessments. I will still continue with using technology to assist in the assessment but the sharing aspect will have to wait.

  1. I too would like to create a website for my classes. I have limited experience doing this, but probably more than the average person. The biggest challenge that has me reluctant to do this is that I have many assignments that are not in an electronic format. If I were to create a website I would want to be able to post assignments so that students could access them from anywhere. That way if they were sicke they could get their work done from home. I would also be able to post powerpoints with my lectures recored. I have a lot of thoughts and goals but not enough time to get all of them done. Good luck to you as you work on your goals!

  2. I have developed WebQuests for my students before, and in my experience once you have made your first one it gets easier and easier each time. When I made my first WebQuest as part of an educational technology class in college, I was able to build it on my college’s site. Most recently though, as I’ve created WebQuests for my students at my school, I’ve been able to develop them on my space on our school’s website; this sounds similar to the space you have available at your school. We use SchoolMax, and I have found it to be quite simple to navigate and to construct pages. In addition to building pages for my WebQuests, I have also been able to upload my electronic documents, including my syllabus, class PowerPoints, and other important documents. I know that when you first start out, the process seems a little intimidating, but once you jump in there and dabble with the technology--whether it’s building your own website or creating your first WebQuest--you should see that you will be able to pick it up rather quickly. Good luck!
